We’re Getting Ready for the 2020 City Biodiversity Challenge!
Between April 24th and 27th, many cities across the world will be competing to see who can make the most observations of nature, find the most species, and engage the most people in the worldwide 2020 City Nature Challenge (CNC).
EwA and the Friends of the Fells are participating in this year’s challenge! This is a great opportunity to learn what you can do to help climate and wildlife science. We'll also show you how to add research value to your observations. On April 24th and 26th, join us and together let’s observe & record what we see!
ⓘ This is an RSVP / Registration event. Please register if you intend to attend > https://ewa-2020-urban-wildlife-quest-at-the-fells.eventbrite.com
This is a limited size participant event, and there is an ecological reason for that: it is critical that we do not overwhelm any habitat by having too many people in a single spot at a time. Another reason is that we favor event quality over attendance quantity.
Directions: We'll meet at the Flynn Rink parking lot in the Fells and wait about 5 minutes for the attendees who registered for the event. Then, we'll get to the area in the Fells that we want to survey that day. Please arrive on time so that we avoid having to repeat instructions and slow down the survey and competition. Thanks!

Weather: Event will happen Rain or Shine. If we have to cancel for bad weather, we will email the attendees.
What to Upload:
To simplify the process, and make sure that our sightings will indeed be counted as part of the challenge, we ask the participants to upload the iNat app on their phone, or pair with someone who will have a mobile device. Check our EwA 2020 CNC post for instructions » https://www.earthwiseaware.org/2020-city-nature-challenge/.
What to Wear & Bring:
- Make sure to wear long pants, and preferably long shirts (and avoid bites & scratches), and good sturdy shoes.
- Please bring your own water and snacks. This event is about Nature so that we protect it better. Then naturally we won't provide single-usage bottles of water or anything plastic-wrapped snack.
- Don't forget your smart device, or bring a camera if you're not using your phone (making sure that the GPS location will be registered for later recording on iNat).
