History Tour through Haywardville and Virginia Wood with Doug Heath

Sunday, September 26, 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM

1 Woodland Road, Stoneham, just south of the Pond Street rotary.

Leader: Doug Heath, author and certified interpretive guide.

Join us as we walk through history along Spot Pond Brook in Middlesex Fells!  The walk, which will be led by award-winning author Douglas Heath, will pass locations of mills dating back to 1640.  These woods were once home to a village where workers produced an array of goods, including grist, lumber, snuff, spices, wagon wheels, boxes, and rubber boots. The tour will also include Virginia Wood, the first gift to the Trustees of Reservations, which now owns over 120 properties in Massachusetts.

Doug's books, Middlesex Fells and The Lost Village of Middlesex Fells may be purchased as a signed set for a special discount price of $30.

Heavy rain cancels the walk. Light rain is OK.

Level of difficulty: moderate
